What are you reviewing? Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey
What overall grade do you give it? A+
Do you remember how much you paid for the bottle? $47 (Fair Price – $58)
Is the whiskey worth what you paid? Yes
Nose – Nice sweet smell, very light ethanol that fades quickly and reveals a soft maple with slight peach scent. I can tell how smooth it’s going to be straight from the scent.
Palate – Oh dang, I was right about how smooth it is, and the nose also hinted at the flavors, a nice mellow and smooth flavor with a hint of maple and peach. The maple subsides to a bit of an apple flavor. Then, to a spicy taste on both sides of the tongue, but interestingly, not in the center.
Finish – The finish is very pleasant, and lingers for quite a while. Once I’ve swallowed the whiskey, the spiciness continues to tingle, but adds a really pleasant caramel and corn flavor.
Does this whiskey remind you of a different whiskey? You can tell it’s a Tennessee whiskey, but this is now my favorite Tennessee whiskey.
In your opinion, what’s the best use of this whiskey (sipping or mixing? Any recommendations on a particular mix? Sip, sip, sip. Neat, rocks, water, whatever your preference is, but don’t waste this whiskey by adding it to a mixed drink.
Is there anything about the whiskey we should know that we didn’t ask? I bought this whiskey specifically because I learned it was black owned, when I learned that, I read up on the story of Uncle Nearest himself, and the story of the founder of this company. So, I fully admit, I bought this bottle to make a statement of support. Every future bottle of it I buy (my bar will ALWAYS have this whiskey available) will be because the whiskey is that damn good.
