What overall grade do you give it? A+
Do you remember how much you paid for the bottle? $99 (Fair Price – $100)
Is the whiskey worth what you paid? Yes
Nose – Immediately after pouring there is an ethanol scent, but after allowing it to set for a few minutes, it dissipates and leaves behind a beautiful sweet, fruity scent.
Palate – Initially I tasted a mixture of many fruits, then after a few more sips it settled on a very nice dark cherry taste. Subsequent sips revealed some caramel and cinnamon. Just a great combination of flavors. I enjoyed taking a sip and just allowing the bourbon to stay on my tongue, there was very little burn and allowed my tongue to pick up all the great flavors of the bourbon.
Finish – Very pleasant LONG finish of caramel and cinnamon.
Does this whiskey remind you of a different whiskey? Sure, it reminds me a bit of Weller Antique 107, but this has more fruit than the Antique. It has less sugar, but more caramel. More cinnamon, but less oak, and a much longer, much better finish than Antique 107.
In your opinion, what’s the best use of this whiskey (sipping or mixing? Any recommendations on a particular mix? This needs to be sipped either neat, with a splash of water, or with a bit of ice, whichever is your preference. I just can’t even begin to imagine using this in a cocktail.
Is there anything about the whiskey we should know that we didn’t ask? Only that some prices for Weller Full Proof are astronomical. This is a great bottle. Really great. BUT, I would not pay more than $120 for it.
